This week we'd like to introduce you to Alisa, small local business grocery manager of The Yakima Fruit Market, and her featured product: Four Bandits Anti-Germ.

Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
The Yakima Fruit Market is the longest running business in Bothell. Next year we will be 80 years old! In the 1920s there was a road house here called the Blue Swallow Inn. It was a bar with ten tiny rooms upstairs. In the 1950s the current building was built and the family that lived here sold extra produce they brought over from Yakima off their front steps. As that business grew the house expanded and the market was built off the house. My father in law started working here when he was 14 and when it became for sale in the 1970s he told his dad about it who ended up purchasing it. Doug and Jane Poage ran the market for about a decade and sold it to my in laws in 1986. Stuart and Karin have owned it for the last 31 years and have really shaped it into the thriving business it is today.

My name is Alisa and I've worked at the Yakima Fruit Market for 20 years. I started working here in high school and I've stayed because I love being a part of such a fun family business that promotes local seasonal produce. I've learned so much about the seasons and when crops are available locally and I enjoy helping others work towards enjoying the seasonality of produce too. I love working outside, being close to the weather and watching the seasons change through the produce. Each day I get a reminder of what is in season and I try to enjoy it both by eating my way through them and soaking up the weather. My very favorite time here is September when the summer fruits collide with the fall squash, apples and pears.

Two years ago I convinced my father-in-law to add more shelving to the back of the market and I've been slowly growing a specialty grocery section with an emphasis on local, organic, and gluten free items. As a mom with two small kids I never want to stop at more than one store on my way home so my goal is to create a more well-rounded shopping experience. My goal is that you could come and get all your produce as well as the few things to make dinner so you don't have to go anywhere else. I'm always open to suggestions of products that would be a good addition.

As I was looking for a local company that made quality home and body care products I remembered how much I loved Uncle Harry’s products and that they were made by another small family owned local business and I knew it would be a great fit. I've enjoyed growing our Uncle Harry’s section and it’s been going great. It’s fun to tell customers about them and I've gotten lots of good feedback.

How did you hear about Uncle Harry’s?
I have enjoyed Uncle Harry's products for many years - I first found them at Super Supplements and came to love the essential oil blends that I use at home all the time. I was thrilled to realize Uncle Harry's line was so large and I am continually discovering more new products!

How long have you used Uncle Harry’s and which are your favorite products?
I've used them for about 10 years. At home with little kids I use a lot of the Four Bandits Anti-Germ essential oil blend. I make a kitchen cleaner with it I use every day. I love the smell and that its not full of chemicals. Plus one bottle lasts for so long as I use it as a concentrate and add 20 drops to a spray bottle. Just this spring I discovered your toothpaste and I am hooked. I’m on my fourth jar and I just love how fresh it is. I've also been using your activated charcoal to naturally whiten my teeth which i love too and see a difference already.
