Uncle Harry's Red Palm Oil

Red Palm Oil comes from the fruit of the tropical palm tree Elaesis guineensis. It is the cooking oil of preference in Africa. It has not been available in the USA until now. Only refined white palm oil, which is virtually denuded of the wonderful healing properties of the Unrefined Red Palm Oil, is available in the USA.

Why Red Palm Oil should be a daily part of your diet

  1. Contains significant amounts of Vitamin A for a perfectly functioning immune system. It naturally protects against vitamin A deficiency.
  2. Best source of Tocotrienol, the super antioxidant constituent of Vitamin E.
  3. Rich source of Tocopherol, another super anti-oxidant constituent of Vitamin E.
  4. Rich in Beta-Carotenes.
  5. One of the best food sources for a healthy heart.
  6. May lower blood cholesterol level, LDL bad cholesterol and triglycerides.
  7. May raise HDL "good" cholesterol.
  8. May protect the heart better than aspirin without the harsh side-effects to the intestinal tract and stomach lining such as leaky gut syndrome.
  9. May prohibit the growth of breast cancer cells as well as most forms of cancer.
  10. May reduce risk of blood clots and atherosclerosis. It is a good blood thinner and naturally cuts the risk of stroke. Helps to dissolve arterial plaque that can cause a stroke.
  11. Helps to normalize blood pressure.
  12. Because of its high quality antioxidant content it acts as a free radical scavenger and may reduce the cause of Alzheimer’s, Senility, Rheumatism, Heart attack, Arthritis, Cancer, Asthma, Parkinson’s, Stroke, and Macular degeneration.

Vitamin E of Red Palm Oil

Vitamin E may help to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, raise "good" HDL cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart attack, and boost the immune system to fight diseases like cancer and lower the risk of developing cataracts. Vitamin E is a complex of many constituents broken into two groups: tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta) and four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta). Supplement and chemical companies usually concentrate alpha tocopherol and sell it as a dietary supplement. For the human body to assimilate Vitamin E, the full spectrum of tocopherols and especially tocotrienols are necessary. Uncle Harry’s Unrefined Red Palm Oil contains the two groups of Vitamin E constituents in their natural concentrations.

Tocotrienols, found in Unrefined Red Palm Oil, may lower cholesterol naturally by inhibiting HMG-CoA, the enzyme that controls the rate at which cholesterol is made in the body. They may help to thin blood and actually dissolve arterial plaque that can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Tocotrienols may extend the lives of stroke patients by reducing the risk of a second stroke.

Unrefined Red Palm Oil is the richest known source of tocotrienols (Slover, 1971).  No other common edible oil (except rice bran oil) contains this form of Vitamin E in significant amount.

Tocotrienols of Red Palm Oil may exhibit anti-cancer properties (Komiyama et al., 1989; Guthrie et al., 1993; Goh et al., 1994 Nesaretnam et al., 1992).  Tocotrienols have greater physiological efficiency in inhibiting the growth of human and mouse tumour cells than tocopherols (Kato et al., 1985; Komiyama et al., 1989; Sundram et al., 1989).

Prof. K.K. Carroll (1997) and Guthrie (1997a; 1997b) from University of Western Ontario, Canada showed that tocotrienols inhibit proliferation & growth of both estrogen receptor-negative MDA-MB-435 and –positive MCF-7 human breast cells in culture.  Gamma tocotrienol is 3 times more potent in stopping the growth of human breast cancer cultured-cells than Tamoxifen (a drug widely used in the treatment of breast cancer).  When used together with Tamoxifen, the combination was found to be 45 times as potent.  In comparison, tocopherols have been found to have no effect on the growth of breast cancer cells.  Recently a study conducted at University of Readings (Nasarethnam et al., 1998) also showed similar results.

Prof. K.K. Carroll of the Centre for Human Nutrition at the University of Western Ontario and Prof. David Kritchevsky of the Wistar Institute recently concluded that evidence from animal and in vitro studies indicate that the tocotrienols of Red Palm Oil may be effective anti-cancer agents, and that there is adequate justification for clinical trials in human cancer patients.

Carotenoids of Red Palm Oil

Unrefined Red Palm Oil is one of the richest natural plant sources of carotenoids with concentration of 500-700 ppm.  It has 15 times more retinol-equivalent than carrots and 300 times more than tomatoes.  No other vegetable oil contains carotenoids in significant quantities.  Analysis shows that alpha and beta carotenes constitute approximately 90% of the total carotenoid content.  Carotenoids impart a rich orange-red colour to the raw oil.  Uncle Harry's offers you pure Unrefined Red Palm Oil.

The beneficial effects of carotenes on cancer and other chronic diseases have been demonstrated in population studies and human clinical trials (Krinsky, 1993; Bendich, 1990; Garewal, 1993; Ziegler et al., 1993; Greenberg, 1993; Zhang et al., 1992; Wolf, 1993; Greenberg et al., 1990; Blot et al., 1993).  If future studies further confirm the anti-cancer effects of carotenoids, palm oil will play a vital role in the prevention of cancer.

Uncle Harry’s Unrefined Red Palm Oil is not hydrogenated and contains no trans-fatty acids. Trans-fatty acids are dangerous. They raise LDL (bad cholesterol) and other blood lipids, lower HDL (good cholesterol), and increase the risk of diabetes. Most modern processed foods contain trans-fatty acids, which are found in margarine, fast food, deep-fried foods, baked goods, cookies, cakes, pies, candies, cured and aged foods such as sausages, luncheon meats, and some cheeses.

Cooking oils sold in mass merchandising outlets are processed, oxidized, hydrogenated, deodorized, bleached, de-gummed. They contain trans-fatty acids that are created by heating for deep frying, and by hydrogenation, which transforms liquid oils to solid vegetable shortening. Hydrogenated oils are used for making processed foods because they increase the shelf life, however, the process also increases trans-fatty acid content which impairs the immune system and makes the human body more susceptible to disease. This creates the conditions for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, premature aging, high blood pressure, cancers and other illnesses.

Because Unrefined Red Palm Oil contains so much Vitamin E antioxidants it naturally resists oxidation and rancidity. It remains stable even when cooked at high temperatures.
