Uncle Harry speaks out on tooth & gum problems
Question 1: Uncle Harry, in your opinion, why do you think so many people have problems with their teeth & gums?
Uncle Harry: Almost every health problem can be traced to bad choices of food and lifestyle. Contrary to what people believe, the foods that most Americans choose to eat are not only detrimental to health but they also cause malnutrition. This is the direct result of eating foods that are processed and over refined. It is interesting to know that dental disease is unknown in wild animals. Even among animals reared by man in an artificial environment, tooth decay is not as prevalent as among humans. Tooth decay is really a disease of modern civilization. In skulls of ancient people who have been unearthed, teeth are generally intact and show no sign of decay. The enamel of these ancient people is much harder and almost twice as thick as that of present-day humans. These skulls of our ancestors were buried in the earth for upwards to ten thousand years. You can just imagine how formidable their teeth were during their lifetime.
We must ask ourselves the question: why were our ancestors' teeth so healthy and strong and ours so miserably weak and diseased? The answer is very simple. When a human being or animal eats the food that it is destined to eat by nature and God, then he does not transgress the laws of nature and enjoys the benefit of health. When we learn to eat natural foods that are destined for our consumption, then we will have healthy teeth as well as vibrant health. A vivid example of this is the case of the Maoris. Captain Cook first set eyes on the Maoris in the 18th Century upon discovering the Polynesian islands. The Maoris lived in Tahiti and other islands of the Pacific Ocean and were described by captain Cook and his men as having wonderful physiques, very robust, athletic, and of wondrous strength. They were especially impressed by the Maoris' perfect set of teeth which showed no sign of the decay and disease so common at the time among Europeans. A scientific study of the Maoris found out that their diets consisted only of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and fish with meat eating being a privilege reserved only for the tribal chiefs. The Maoris were colonized and underwent a change of lifestyle through Western influence. They adopted the ways of living and eating of the Europeans including eating meat, canned food, white bread, and other processed foods. When Dr. Edmund Szeckley did a study on them over two hundred years later after World War II, he found them to be a weak and sickly people. The magnificent set of teeth they were known for had become a thing of the past and dental decay had become rampant.
The convenience of modern life has conditioned us to eat mediocre food and to be condemned to a lifetime of mediocre health.
Question 2: Can you give more insight into the problem of nutrition in the modern world?
Uncle Harry: First and foremost, we should stay away from white sugar. Alfred W. McCaine, a former health commissioner, demonstrated that calcium is soluble in water in the frequency of usually one part of calcium to one thousand parts of water. When sugar, which has an affinity for calcium, is added to water, the amount of dissolved calcium is thirty-five times as much. Therefore, sugar leaches out calcium from the teeth, bones, and other sources of calcium in the body. In this way, the real culprit of tooth decay is coming from too much sugar that seeps into the blood and into the lymphatic system. A Japanese nutritionist named Dr. Katase proved that the body can accommodate a small amount of refined sugar that is transformed to glycogen by the liver. Any additional amount is absorbed into the circulation and is converted into carbonic acid. To protect the body from the corrosive action of this acid, calcium is withdrawn from the bones for neutralization. Teeth and other bones are generally prime targets in the body for the leaching of calcium due to excess sugar intake. For information, the amount of refined sugar which can be tolerated by a human being is less than 2/3 of an ounce a day for an adult. For a child weighting forty pounds, the corresponding amount would be 1/6 of an ounce. However, the actual consumption of sugar per person in America is estimated to be about 5 ounces per day. Therefore, we have a real dental catastrophe in this country.
Sugar is not the only culprit: it is the overall diet in America. Refined cereals and foods made with them, meat, fish, and eggs, coffee, tea, sodas, cigarettes, alcohol, and all other forms of drugs, mild or hard, destroy vitamin C in the body which leads to the familiar problem of receding gums. In fact, the color of the gums changes from a rosy red to a pale pink and the tightness of the gums is transformed into a spongy loose aspect by the excessive use of these substances.
There is a myth in this country that a diet high in protein intake is favorable for general health. It has been proven by scientific research that a low protein diet is much healthier and promotes longevity. The recommended daily allowance of protein as suggested by nutritionists in America is grossly exaggerated. In my opinion, a high protein diet is a cause of poor digestion and a contributing cause of tooth and gum problems. A human being should eat a vegetarian diet that is low in protein with a healthy dose of fruits, vegetables and grains raw or cooked on low heat to retain as much of the mineral and vitamin properties as possible. An ideal diet is made up of fresh organic seasonal vegetables and fruits, organic, whole grains and beans, nuts and seeds, herbs and seaweeds, and organic dairy. If a sweetener is required unrefined raw honey and steevia can be used. One should eliminate all refined products especially refined sugar and salt. If salt is required, use only sun dried unrefined sea salt or mineral rich mined salt from environmentally clean sources.
The human being is not meant to eat dead flesh of any kind, whether meat, fish, or eggs. Flesh simply putrefies in the intestines and gives off by-products such as uric acid. Also, the residue of acids supplied by the stomach, liver, and pancreas, which have all been oversecreted to digest rotting flesh in the digestive system, remain unneutralized in the intestines and enter into the blood system along with other by-products of putrefied flesh. All this refuse of rotting flesh entering the blood system begins a catastrophic degeneration of the immune system and of the elasticity of the capillaries and arteries, and causes a derangement of normal metabolism by which the body makes and derives essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C and calcium. The body's ability to assimilate calcium and vitamin C diminishes. Gums start to recede and bleed, leading to infections, and gradually gum disease develops. Gum problems are usually due to Vitamin C deficiency.
Calcium and other mineral salts are naturally manufactured in the digestive system from appropriate foodstuff which are properly digested. These mineral salts are distributed by the blood stream and through the lymphatic system. A defective digestive system produces much acid that causes an imbalance in the acid/alkaline ratio of the blood. This weakened, acidic blood causes havoc in the mouth and in the body as it begins to wear down bone and enamel.
Poor teeth and gums are usually the first victims of this havoc. Thus eating flesh foods such as meat, fish, or eggs, white sugar and other refined and processed foods, using mild or hard drugs including coffee, tea, and cigarettes, all contribute individually or collectively to dental decay and tooth and gum problems.
Question 3: Do you have any simple proposal to help someone who is suffering from tooth and gum problems?
Uncle Harry: First and foremost, I would clean up my diet and of course I would use Uncle Harry's Natural Products, which are made to help people win the battle against tooth and gum problems. I've been very careful not to use any of the conventional ingredients in formulating my dental products. I strictly avoid fluoride, sweeteners, preservatives, any miracle synthetic additive, baking soda, and foaming agents such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Uncle Harry's Natural Toothpowder contains natural mustard seed powder, sundried sea salt, calcium carbonate or natural chalk, and a bouquet of natural aromatherapy essential oils such as thyme, eucalyptus, clove, and peppermint. This mixture creates a very powerful synergetic potion that cleans the teeth and eliminates harmful bacterial build-up in the mouth.
For more intensive care, I also use the Tooth and Gum Elixir which is a mixture of pure aromatherapy oils that make up the toothpowder. This elixir can give almost instant relief to sensitivity of the teeth caused by receding gums or decay. Anyone wanting to use an entirely natural product for intensive anti-bacterial action can use this powerful elixir. For infected gums, one drop on the finger massaged on the gum will permit the elixir to penetrate into the deep pockets and fight infection. Several drops in a quarter cup of water makes an effective non-alcoholic mouthwash. For intense pain, I have formulated a special toothache relief oil made of clove, cinnamon and oregano oils. This will help to relieve the throbbing pain of toothache and by virtue of the very powerful oils and their synergetic effect, it can stop the spread of infection. I have also formulated a unique spray Mouthwash made of colloidal silver water and the natural essential oils present in the elixir. This is a convenient way of maintaining a clean and healthy mouth. As an alternative to the salt and peppermint based toothpowder, I have developed Uncle Harry's Tooth Whitener which contains no salt or peppermint for those who choose to avoid them. It has calcium carbonate, lemon juice, lemon peel, lemon oil, and Indian gooseberry as its main ingredients.
For optimal oral hygiene, I suggest using my stainless steel Tongue Cleaner. The stomach eliminates a lot of toxic material during sleep which is deposited on the tongue. Rather than re-swallow this buildup of toxins upon waking up, one should immediately clean the tongue and complete the body's process of elimination. To supplement these products, I also provide a Dental Gum made of 100% Propolis and Camu Camu Powder, or availabe in capsule form Camu Camu (100 Vegetable Capsules). Camu Camu is a potent source of Vitamin C. To improve digestion, I suggest using my Breath Freshener and Herbal Digestive. All of the above formulations are made of completely natural ingredients. They are simple and effective products to help one succeed in keeping healthy and strong teeth. Lastly, I offer Food for Hair, Skin, and Teeth, which is made of natural seeds, nuts, grains, and herbs. This powerful mixture supplies the body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
